This year alone we have heard evidence of systemic failure to protect survivors of family violence.  In Queensland, a policeman who provided private information including the address at which the survivor lived to her perpetrator remains in his job.

In New South Wales a perpetrator was given a gun licence by police notwithstanding he had a history of perpetrating family violence. He later killed his own children.

Anecdotally, most family lawyers can tell a client which police stations will take their complaint seriously and which will not.  Family violence has a significant impact in family law proceedings.
