The Family Court system has been chronically underfunded through successive governments for decades.  On 30 May 2017 the Chair of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia appeared before a House of Representatives Standing Committee enquiry into how the family law system can better support and protect those affected by family violence.

The Law Council’s key message included improved funding for the Family Court system and ensuring that only practitioners with family law experience be appointed as Judicial Officers.

The position of the Family Law Section is that there are a number of actions which could improve safety for families involved in the family law system but outcomes will remain poor without a funding boost to the Court and associated entities including the Legal Aid Commission.

As a firm, we take the issue of delay in the resolution of our clients’ issues very seriously.  There are a range of alternatives to Court which experienced and agile practitioners utilise.
