Mother’s day is approaching and this day is often associated with children spending time with their mothers and other maternal figures including extended family members.

It is our experience that this special day can cause conflict between parents, including same sex parents, with respect to the time children are to divide between different sides of the family.

In some cases, mothers may have challenges to spend quality time with their children on this day, especially in circumstances where parents do not have a parenting plan or consent orders that specially provide for children to spend Mother’s day with their mother and other important female figures in their lives.

Collaboration is key

Therefore, it is crucial for parents to collaborate and reach amicable arrangements for their children’s well-being in relation to special days including Mother’s Day (and Father’s day) in advance of these holidays.

In situations where no agreement in reached between parents, we highly recommend family dispute resolution, such as mediation. This process can help parents establish a schedule that best serves their children’s interests and ensures that their children can share this day with their family members.

At Tiyce & Lawyers, we can assist parents in reaching agreements, by way of a parenting plan or consent order, to provide families with the ability to have meaningful and structured time with their children and avoid conflict in the future.
