This is a hilarious punchline from a Christmas special from the Royle Family.  Most people immediately see the humour in the sheer ridiculousness of the comment – of course Christmas is a day for children.

So much preparation goes into ensuring arrangements are perfect and the day is just right that focus can be lost on this important point.  If you have children in your family, there is not much more that Christmas is in fact about.

In family law the first question about arrangements for children is always what is in the best interests of the children, and at no time is there a more fundamental question.  Our advice is always the same.

Christmas should be a joyful event for children and not one for them to be caught in parental squabbles.  Be flexible, listen to the children, and focus on their needs, not yours.  Sure lunch might be a bit late or the Christmas party a bit early, but in the big scheme of things, the children will not remember that.  They will remember the good times they had with you.
